DESCRIPTION

Lobos is a 4.5 km² islet located northeast of the island of Fuerteventura. Separated by the Bocaina Strait, whose depth does not exceed 30 meters. The island can be clearly seen from Corralejo. Its name is due to the fact that in the past, monk seals or friar from the Mediterranean (also known as sea lions) lived on the island, now in danger of extinction. The fishermen killed them, since they thought their voracity reduced the marine resources of the area. Each of these animals needs between 30kg and 40kg of fish a day. Efforts are being made to reintroduce sea lions, despite the denial of the fishermen.

La Concha beach in Lobos. The Islote de Lobos Natural Park is protected and forms. It houses more than 130 plant species and several species of birds, highlighting the herring gull, the bustard (at certain times of the year) and the ashy shearwater. The seabed is an underwater reserve area and contains great ecological wealth. Its maximum height is in La Caldera, 127m
